A SURE THING
High-energy live music built for the room — from current hits to classic covers, with flexible lineups from a duo to a full six-piece band.
One band. A lot of range.
A Sure Thing combines musicians as needed for each event, creating a setup that fits the room without losing the energy.
Full Band
Big sound, multiple voices and instruments, and the energy of a complete party-band setup.
Smaller Lineups
Scaled combinations for rooms and events that need a more compact footprint.
Duo
A streamlined option that still brings recognizable songs, personality and live-musician chemistry.
The people behind the music.
The roster blends lifelong musicians, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and rotating players — each bringing a different set of influences to the stage.
Joseph Preissing
Founder and leader of A Sure Thing, Joe is a lifelong musician whose influences span rock, funk, blues and classical music. His listening list includes the Allman Brothers, Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty, Beatles, Stones, ZZ Top, Todd Rundgren and James Taylor. He studied performance, composition and the business side of music, and also books and promotes events.
Tim Lavin
Tim brings energetic playing and singing to the band. His influences include Mike Campbell from Tom Petty, Yes, Genesis, Creedence Clearwater Revival and many others.
Mike Baltazar
A classically trained keyboard player and composer, Mike covers a lot of musical ground. His influences include Supertramp, Stevie Wonder, Clapton and Steely Dan.
Eric Jensen
Eric is a drummer’s drummer, with influences including Stewart Copeland of The Police, the Beatles and The Who. Comedy and a clear love of music come along for the ride.
John Toljanic
JT has the pocket. John’s groove helps drive the band, with influences that include Wilco, Phish and all things jamming.
Bec Bradshaw
Bec is a powerhouse multi-instrumental talent. Singing, bass and guitar are all part of the package, along with a youthful energy that lifts the band.
Tom Karch
TK loves rock, funk and blues — and plays them all. Tom has also been a mainstay in the local music scene.
Nahum Smith
Nahum is both a musician and an educator. His range runs from Gypsy Jazz to Hendrix and plenty in between, and he brings that same musicianship to his work as a teacher.
Brandon Boch
Brandon brings influences from Dylan, Petty, the Stones, jazz and rock. He has a knack for playing the parts that make familiar songs feel right.
Mary Preissing Burkhardt
Mary and Joe have been singing together since they were kids. Her influences include Carly Simon, Carole King, Anne Murray and Stevie Wonder.
From an intimate setup to a full party band.
A Sure Thing can adjust the size and mix of the group to fit the venue, audience and event. That flexibility makes it possible to keep the performance appropriate to the room while still delivering the musical variety and audience interaction the band is known for.
